SJKT LADANG NORTH HUMMOCK, SELANGOR

I am Thejasvinee Thiruvarasan, a 12-year-old student from SJKT Ladang North Hummock. As I prepare to graduate from 6th grade this year, I find myself reflecting on my journey in public speaking, which began in 2022. This path has been marked by challenges, growth, and notable achievements.

When I first ventured into public speaking in 2022, I was excited and apprehensive. Speaking in front of an audience felt daunting, but I was determined to overcome my fears. I dedicated countless hours to rehearsing and refining my speeches, focusing on delivering my thoughts clearly and building my confidence. This dedication was not just about winning competitions; it was about gaining self-assurance.

In 2023, my hard work started to pay off. I participated in the Public Speaking Competitions organized by Majlis Guru Besar Sekolah Tamil – Headmasters Council (MGBT) at both the district and state levels, earning 2nd place at both. These results significantly boosted my confidence and motivated me to continue pushing myself. In 2024, my efforts led to a 1st place win at the district level and a 4th place finish at the state level. These achievements highlighted my growth and dedication.

My journey extended beyond these competitions. I also engaged in online book reviews and public speaking contests. These virtual platforms required me to adapt and connect with audiences in new ways, broadening my skills and gaining valuable experience.

This year, on May 26, 2024, I competed in the Saraswathy English Challenge by Basis Bay, which was initially opened only to B40 students but later extended to all students. Competing at the national level was a remarkable experience. Speaking in front of at least 100 people in a grand avenue and facing top competitors was exhilarating and humbling. Being among the top 10 finalists was a proud moment for me, demonstrating how my hard work and dedication helped me stand out.

Additionally, I excelled in the Public Speaking Co-Academic Competition, securing 4th place at the district level. My success continued with a 1st place win in the Zone Level Tokoh NILAM competition and a 2nd place finish at the district level. I also participated in the English Book Review competition under Ministry of Education, where I won 1st place at the State level and proceeded to the national level. These accomplishments reflect my perseverance and commitment to improving my skills.

I am deeply grateful for the support I have received throughout this journey. My school, SJKT Ladang North Hummock, has been a cornerstone of support, with my teachers’ offering guidance. I also want to send my heartfelt thanks to my aunt, parents, and English teachers. Their unwavering support and belief in me have been crucial to my success.

Looking back, I am proud of my progress and excited about the future. Public speaking has become an integral part of who I am, and I am eager to see where this path of hard work and determination will lead me.
